Background: previous research institute reported large differences in the prevalence of vulva moss, and risk factors associated with vulva moss has not been fully understand, so the prevalence of comprehensive vulva moss and summarize the risk factors of vulva vulva moss is necessary.
Method: the system retrieval PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Medline, Embase, Scopus, CINAHL Plus, Web of Articles published in Chinese and English by Science, CNKI, Wanfang, VIP and CBM, clinicaltrials.gov and other databases were searched from the establishment of the database until June 2025. Meta-analysis was performed using prevalence, odds ratio (ORs), and 95% confidence interval (CIs).
Results: the comprehensive incidence of feminine vulva moss was 0.08 (95% CI, 0.05 to 0.11, I2 = 99.87%). Spicy food (OR, 2.52; 95% CI, 1.61-3.96), salty (OR,2.63; 95% CI, 1.51-4.58), slightly hot (OR,3.26; 95% CI, 1.72-6.19), negative emotion (OR,2.93; 95% CI, 2.00-4.30), vaginitis (OR,3.30; 95% CI, 1.95-5.61) diabetes mellitus (OR,3.08; 95% CI, 1.47-6.47), allergic constitution (OR,8.43; 95% CI, 0.82-86.31) and yield (OR,1.89; 95% CI, 0.64-5.59), sedentary (OR,3.62; 95% CI,1.61-8.13), laundry detergent for underwear (OR,5.12; 95% CI,2.99-8.76), immune system diseases (OR,2.16; 95% CI,1.87-2.50), urinary incontinence (OR,1.39; 95% CI,1.22-1.57), age (OR,1.70; 95% CI,0.72-3.99) is a risk factor for vulvar moss, vegetarian diet (OR,0.36; 95% CI, 0.22-0.61), pig liver (OR,0.35; 95% CI, 0.20-0.60), oral contraceptives (OR,0.75; 95% CI,0.07-7.90) may be a protective factor of vulvar moss.
Conclusion: in clinical work should focus on these risk factors, especially the factors related to diet, mood and immune health. Future studies should further explore the mechanisms of these risk factors and conduct interventional studies to explore effective prevention and treatment measures. In addition, considering the diverse risk factors of vulvar moss, a comprehensive intervention strategy may be an important direction to deal with this disease.
