Psychosomatic medicine can be defined as a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach that encompasses the following elements: the evaluation of psychological factors influencing an individual's susceptibility to, as well as the progression and outcome of, medical conditions; the consideration of biopsychosocial aspects in patient care within clinical practice; and the implementation of specialized interventions to integrate psychological therapies in the prevention, treatment, and recovery from medical illnesses. The purpose of this review is to offer a contemporary overview of psychosomatic medicine, delineate its intersections with allied fields, and highlight its pivotal contributions to the domains of clinical and preventative medicine.
