Pregnant women are strongly advised against consuming alcohol during pregnancy. Drinking alcohol while pregnant has been proven to harm a developing baby in the womb. Alcohol use during pregnancy may also result in enduring medical issues and birth defects. When a pregnant woman consumes alcohol, it circulates through her bloodstream and reaches the baby's bloodstream, tissues, and organs. Alcohol metabolizes much more slowly in the baby's body compared to that of an adult, which means the baby's blood alcohol level remains elevated for a longer duration than the mother's. This can be detrimental to the baby and may, in some cases, result in lifelong damage.
