Pain can manifest in various forms. Acute pain refers to a type of pain that typically lasts for less than 3 to 6 months, or pain directly associated with soft tissue damage, such as a sprained ankle or a paper cut. Acute pain is short-lived and gradually subsides as the injured tissues heal. It differs from chronic pain and tends to be more intense and severe. Addiction, on the other hand, is a bio psychosocial disorder marked by recurrent use of substances or repeated engagement in behaviours like gambling, despite causing harm to oneself and others.
