Substance abuse can be essentially defined as a pattern of harmful consumption of any substance with the intent to alter one's mood. These substances encompass alcohol and various drugs (whether legal or illicit) as well as certain substances that aren't drugs at all. Many individuals grappling with substance abuse issues can cease or modify their unhealthy behaviours. Conversely, addiction is recognized as a medical condition. Both legal and illegal drugs contain chemicals that can alter the functioning of your body and mind.
