Neurodegenerative diseases

Neurodegenerative diseases

Neurodegenerative diseases encompass a spectrum of debilitating conditions that progressively damage neurons in the brain and spinal cord. Examples include Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Huntington's, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). These diseases lead to a gradual decline in cognitive function, motor skills, and sometimes emotional stability. The exact causes often involve a combination of genetic predisposition, environmental factors, and abnormal protein accumulation in the brain. Currently, there's no cure for most neurodegenerative diseases, making management and symptom relief the primary focus of treatment. Research efforts strive to understand the underlying mechanisms better and develop innovative therapies to alleviate suffering and improve patients' quality of life.
