Anti-inflammatory drugs

Anti-inflammatory drugs

Anti-inflammatorydrugs, also known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), are a class of medications that work to reduce inflammation, pain, and fever. They achieve this by inhibiting the activity of enzymes called cyclooxygenases (COX), which are involved in the production of prostaglandins molecules that play a key role in the inflammatory process.

There are two main types of NSAIDs:

  • Non-selective NSAIDs
  • Selective COX-2 inhibitors
