Neonatal Surgery

Neonatal Surgery

Neonatal surgery is for newborns with birth abnormalities, while fetal surgery is for babies in the womb. These procedures correct various issues and are done shortly after birth or in the following weeks. Though challenging and risky, they are often life-saving, requiring a team of specialists. Neonatal surgery is common in premature babies for developmental problems. Infants needing surgery or cardiology care are admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), along with those requiring therapeutic cooling.
