Pediatric Intensive Care

Pediatric intensive care is a specialized area of medicine that focuses on the critical care management of infants, children, and adolescents with life-threatening illnesses or injuries. It involves the constant monitoring, advanced medical interventions, and multidisciplinary care provided to critically ill or injured pediatric patients in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Children requiring intensive care often have severe medical conditions that require specialized expertise and a high level of medical support. Pediatric intensivists, who are physicians with specialized training in pediatric critical care medicine, lead the care team in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). They work alongside a multidisciplinary team that includes pediatric nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, nutritionists, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive and coordinated care to critically ill children.
