Diabetic eye disease remains a significant clinical and public-health challenge and is a major cause of vision impairment worldwide. Ongoing research is advancing our understanding of retinal vascular damage, inflammation, neurodegeneration, and the mechanisms underlying disease onset and progression. Emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, advanced retinal imaging, and digital screening platforms, are creating new opportunities for earlier detection, risk assessment, and continuous disease monitoring. At the same time, novel pharmacological, biological, and targeted therapeutic approaches are being investigated to improve visual outcomes and reduce treatment burden. This session will provide a multidisciplinary platform to discuss advances in the prevention, diagnosis, monitoring, and management of diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema, while highlighting emerging research and future directions in diabetic eye care.
