Nursing in Obstetrics and Gynecology

Obstetrics and Gynecology Nursing (OB-GYN) a career in obstetrics and gynecology nursing can be energizing and fulfilling. Obstetrics and gynecology nurses are otherwise called OB nurses, OB GYNs, and perinatal nurses. These experts work with women during pregnancy,  labor, and give babies and their mother's postpartum care. Obstetrical nurses also perform post-operative care in the surgical unit, cardiac monitoring stress-test evaluations, vascular monitoring, and health assessments. They have specialized skills such as neonatal resuscitation, electronic fetal monitoring, non-stress tests, and medication administration by continuous intravenous drip.

Gynecology nursing cares for diseases or disorders concerning the reproductive organs; uterus, fallopian tubes, cervix, ovaries, and vagina from the onset of puberty through menopause and beyond.  Gynecology Nurse also cares about problems related to the bowel, bladder, and urinary systems as these are closely related to the female reproductive system.  Other female genital diseases treated by GN’s are yeast and bacterial infections, painful intercourse, irregular and painful menstruation, and other diseases related to menopause that requires surgery.
