Dental Medicine of Monastir, Tunisia
Introduction: To improve the prosthetic management of patients with systemic scleroderma
a systematic review has been conducted. It aims to know the oral manifestations in patients
with systemic scleroderma, to describe the different impression techniques used and to
specify their particularities, to specify the specificity of the prosthetic design in these patients.
Material and methods: The databases used in the search for articles were Pubmed, Scopus
and Web of Science. The bibliographic search was stopped on 18/06/2022.
Results: The search identified 63 articles: 15 articles on PubMed, 45 articles on Scopus and 3
articles on Web Of Science after activation of filters. After selection and reading, 16 articles
were retained and all articles were clinical case report. The fixed implant-supported
prosthesis was the most indicated, followed by removable prostheses. No article described the
use of conventional fixed prostheses. The various articles described particularities in the
impression taking. Flexible, sectioned, or collapsible impression trays were used for the
support. Single-stage techniques were the most used. However, some articles described two-
stage impressions or the taking of two hemi-impressions.
Discussion: At the end of this work, we can recommend the use of implant-supported
prostheses if the local and general conditions allow it. If not, removable prostheses find their
indications and a design adapted to the patient manual dexterity and to his oral opening must
be chosen. A device for removable prosthesis can be made if necessary
