Background: Sexual health is a fundamental component of quality of life, yet in melanoma care, these concerns remain under-addressed despite increasing survivorship.
Methods: This scoping review (ScR) was conducted following PRISMA‑ScR guidelines (Preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis extension for scoping review). Five databases (Scopus, ScienceDirect, MEDLINE/PubMed, CINAHL and PsycINFO) were searched for publications between 2010 and 2025 using keywords related to melanoma and sexual health. Ten studies met inclusion criteria, encompassing cross‑sectional surveys, qualitative analyses, and systematic reviews.
Results: Sexual dysfunction was reported in up to 52% of melanoma patients, with higher prevalence in men (68.9%) compared to women (41.3%). Contributing factors included visible scarring, hormonal imbalances such as testosterone deficiency (observed in 69% of men receiving immunotherapy), body image concerns, anxiety, and depression. Women were more affected by body image and fear of recurrence, while men experienced higher rates of treatment‑induced hypogonadism.
Conclusion: Sexual dysfunction is highly prevalent among melanoma patients yet underrecognized in clinical care. Current gaps include limited longitudinal data, insufficient cultural perspectives, and a lack of evidence‑based interventions. We recommend routine sexual health screening, integration of psychosocial support and multidisciplinary approaches tailored to gender‑specific needs.
