Title : The multidisciplinary nature of medical assistance at an Olympic Venue during the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics

Abstract:

The Venue Medical Officer is the coordinator of comprehensive medical care for an entire Olympic venue, responsible for providing care to both the public and the athletes. Additionally, he interact daily with managers from other functional areas (sports, cleaning & waste, etc.) for the integrated management of the venue. This multidisciplinary approach is reflected not only in these interactions but also in management and communication with the various operational centers within the national healthcare system and the Olympic system. Furthermore, during healthcare operations, various professionals—including doctors, nurses, emergency personnel, mountain rescue teams, and police—collaborate in mixed teams both on the competition field and among the public. The field of play rescue system, in particular, integrates all these professionals into a rescue operation characterized by high technical and specialized expertise. Finally, the enhancement of the communication system and the use of advanced technologies have enabled the regular use of telemedicine and teleconsultation, including in real time. Healthcare during the Winter Olympic Games was therefore a prime example of collaboration and multidisciplinary work aimed at ensuring the highest standards of emergency medical care. We are pleased to share our experience in providing medical services at the Livigno Aerials & Moguls Olympic Venue during the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
