Aphasia Harmony Online Rehabilitation, India
Aphasia is an impairment of
language, affecting the production or the comprehension of speech and the
ability to read or write. Aphasia is due to injury to the brain most commonly
from stroke. The aim of the study was to analyse the effect of multifaceted
approach to aphasia language therapy. Participant was 32-year-old young man who
was a mathematician and had stroke 2 years ago. He was non verbal and no speech
output during assessment. Hindered by a financial
crisis, the client refrained from attending sessions until two months ago when
he enrolled in an online speech therapy program. The therapy commenced with a
focus on functional communication, targeting elements such as recognizing one's
name, family members, familiar objects, action verbs, and following simple
verbal commands. As the client progressed, the therapeutic interventions
evolved to include phonemic cues for naming and labeling functional
communication pictures. Simultaneously, emphasis was placed on expressive
language and naming skills through the implementation of visual action therapy,
verbal network strengthening, response elaboration training, conversational
coaching, and semantic feature analysis.
Within the span of two
months, the client exhibited remarkable progress, shifting from an initial
inability to communicate to reaching a sentence-level language proficiency.
This study highlighting the effectiveness of combining various therapeutic
activities. Showcasing the potential of online speech therapy as a viable
solution for individuals facing barriers to rehabilitation
